Mandy Hathaway, MD
Dr. Hathaway is a board-certified hematologist and oncologist. She joined UCBC in 2022 and sees patients at the Athens-Clarke County Medical Oncology Clinic, Eatonton Clinic, and Toccoa Clinic.
A cum laude graduate of the University of Georgia in Athens, Georgia, Dr. Hathaway earned a degree in biological engineering. She graduated from the Medical College of Georgia in Augusta, Georgia where she received the Medical College of Georgia Dean’s Summer Research Fellow Award. Throughout her higher education career, Dr. Hathaway dedicated time to volunteer work, including becoming the vice president of community service at Medical College of Georgia, coordinator at MCG Student’s Health Clinic, and volunteer coordinator of the American Medical Association-Medical Students Section Chapter at the Medical College of Georgia. Additionally she enjoys attending mission trips and has visited Uganda, Jordan, Indonesia, and Costa Rica on medical missions.
Dr. Hathaway completed her residency in internal medicine at the Medical University of South Carolina in Charleston, South Carolina. During her fellowship in hematology and oncology at the University of Alabama at Birmingham (UAB) in Birmingham, Alabama, she received the following awards: Outstanding Clinical Fellow 2015, Outstanding Clinical Fellow 2017, and Outstanding Research Fellow 2016.
Dr. Hathaway has co-authored an array of peer-reviewed publications, book chapters, and oral and poster presentations. She believes in supporting her patients emotionally, physically, and psychologically throughout their medical journey.
She is a member of the American Society of Hematology, American Society of Clinical Oncology, Gold Humanitarian Honor Society, and Christian Medical and Dental Associations.
Dr. Hathaway’s passion for oncology began when she was in second grade. Witnessing a close friend’s journey with acute lymphoblastic leukemia motivated her to become a doctor. While in medical school, she sought a specialty that included developing personal relationships with patients. During her third year of medical school rotations, she fell in love with the field of oncology.
When she’s not working, Dr. Hathaway enjoys spending time with her husband and son. While in medical school, she rescued a stray dog, who quickly became a part of her family. She is a University of Georgia football fan, and enjoys outdoor activities, including hiking, kayaking, and tubing.
